The Green Bay Gamblers complete the weekend series sweep of the Fargo Force, 3-2 in a shootout, in front of 3,472 at Scheels Arena.

Green Bay struck first with just over three minutes left in the first period. Easton Brodzinski tallied his 15th goal of the season with an assist from Matt Jennings. Brodzinski is now tied for the Gamblers’ team lead in goals scored this season.

With a burst of momentum, Fargo answered with a goal at 9:07 in the second period to even up the game at 1-1. Lukas Kalble scored his fourth goal of the season with assists from Christiano Versich and Grant Meyer. The Force grabbed the lead at 11:40 with a goal from Versich, his fourth of the season with assists from Cody Haiskanen and Meyer.

“We regrouped after the first and got back to our work game, made some things happen and got some confidence from that,” said Head Coach Cary Eades “We really rediscovered our hockey team tonight, we got to a real strong work ethic back after the first intermission and I have to credit our guys with playing with a little heart and character”.

The third period was a defensive battle, until the Gamblers evened up the score at 2-2. Brody Stevens scored the unassisted goal with 2:46 left in regulation. The third period ended in a draw, forcing overtime.

With a spectacular showing from both Green Bay’s David Hrenak and Fargo’s Matt Murray in goal, neither side was able to gain the advantage throughout the overtime clash, forcing a shootout. Each side was allowed three chances during the shootout. Green Bay’s Matt Jennings scored the only goal in the shootout, giving the Gamblers the 3-2 win.

“We played hard,” said Eades. “Tough finish for us but I’m proud of our effort and our battle level.”
