Former Fargo Force defenseman Jake McLaughlin and goaltender Ryan Wischow have both committed to UMass Amherst for the 2016-17 season.
McLaughlin, a defenseman out of Hinsdale, IL, joined the Force during the 2014-15 season via a trade with the Sioux City Musketeers in the second half of the season. Upon joining the team, he played in 16 games scoring one goal and adding two assists. He came back for the 2015-16 season playing in 59 games tallying four goals and seven assists.
“We want to extend our congratulations to both Ryan Wischow & Jake McLaughlin on their commitments to UMass,” said head coach Cary Eades. “Jake took great steps in his consistency of play and proved in the second half of the season that he's ready to make the jump to the next level.”
Goaltender Ryan Wischow (Green Bay, WI), was picked up by Fargo at the roster deadline in the fall of 2015 from the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL. He backstopped the Force in 53 total games posting a record of 24-22-1. He finished the season with a 2.29 goals against average and a save percentage of .917. He was named co-winner of the CCM Goaltender of the Week in January after two straight shut-outs and only allowing one goal in three games.
"Ryan had an outstanding year for us, and with the aid of our goalie coach, Eli Rosendahl, he developed into one of the best goalies in the entire USHL,” added Eades. "Wischow was a real workhorse for us. The Fargo Force organization is proud of these two guys and we are happy to have been a stepping stone for them in realizing their dream of achieving a D1 scholarship."
The Fargo Force host their tryout camp June 3-8 at Farmers Union Insurance Center, connected to Scheels Arena. Specific dates and times will be released on the Fargo Force website as soon as available.
