Force Complete Sweep of the Stars

By Force Staff, 02/27/16, 11:00PM CST

Tonight the Fargo Force took on the Lincoln Stars once again after a heated battle on the ice Friday night where the Force came out on top with an 8-5 victory over the stars. Tonight's game started out in the Force's favor as Cole Gallant, assisted by Denis Smirnov and Bradley Johnson scored the first goal of the game and the only goal in the first period. The Force headed into the second up 1-0.

Tonight's play was a lot more thoughtful and clean from both teams. Defense was much stronger allowing a great deal less shots on goal and ultimately less pucks into the net. Neither team was able to get on the board in the second.

With 1:37 left in the third Fargo's Niko Hildenbrand was sent to the penalty box for hooking. The stars pulled their goalie and were up two men on the ice. The force send the puck out of their zone as Denis Smirnov runs away with it and scores an empty netter putting the Force up 2-0 with twenty seconds left in regulation. With that goal, the Force completed the weekend sweep of the Lincoln Stars and goaltender Ryan Wischow with a shutout.

Head Coach Cary Eades talked about the difference between last night's game and tonight's. Last night pucks were going in on both ends and there were a ton of scoring chances, tonight the chances were minimal and both goalies were outstanding. "A well played game by both teams, and we're happy to come out on top."

Eades stated that the Force are going to enjoy this victory for the time being but it's back to the drawing board on Monday. He concluded with the statement "that you can't lift your foot off the accelerator in this league."
