Dubuque Snaps Three Game Win Streak

By Liz Knisley, 10/23/15, 10:45PM CDT

There was a plethora of tension on the ice at tonight’s game. Coming off of a three game winning streak, tonight’s 1-6 loss to the Dubuque Fighting Saints was quite a heartbreaker. In the first period the Fargo Force lacked the intensity and rhythm needed from a winning team. Dubuque was on their game tonight and took the first nine shots on goal, allowing Evan Smith to score the first goal of the game at 13:41.

In the second the Force came back with more intensity and better play, but their efforts fell short. At 3:44 in the second Shane Kavanagh scored the Fighting Saint’s second goal followed very shortly thereafter at 5:13 by a goal from Evan Smith, causing the Force to trail the Fighting Saints 0-3. Fargo fought back and managed to tally up a goal at 18:02 in the second, scored by Michael Graham and assisted by Jake McLaughlin and Nolan Schaeffer. Graham’s goal felt as if there could be a turning point in the game but this glimmer of hope quickly faded after Dubuque’s Evan Smith earned a hat-trick and Dubuque’s fourth goal of the game at 18:40 in the second.

As tensions, frustrations, and penalties piled up on the ice, so did Dubuque’s score. The Force outshot the Fighting Saints 41-29 but their starting goalie Hunter Miska had an outstanding game, only allowing the Force a single goal throughout regulation. The Force’s off, sporadic play and defensive struggle allowed the Fighting Saints to earn two back-to-back goals, giving Dubuque the 6-1 win over Fargo. The Fargo Force have the chance to redeem themselves by taking on the Dubuque Fighting Saints again Saturday night, a game that is sure to have a lot of heart and action as the Force fight to make up for shortcomings in tonight’s game. In the words of head coach Cary Eades, “The good news is it all starts again tomorrow at zero.”

The Fargo Force take on the Fighting Saints again Saturday night at 7:05pm for Cully’s Kids Night. Tickets are available at the Scheels Arena Box Office,, or the Tickets300 location on Broadway. Box office hours are Monday-Friday 11:00am-6:00pm.
