The United States Hockey League announced today that Fargo Force’s Denis Smirnov has been named the CCM Forward of the Week. He is the first Force player to receive player of the week honors for the 2015-16 season.
Smirnov put up a total of five points in two games this past weekend where the Force swept the Bloomington Thunder on the road. The Russian forward had three assists on Friday night in the 5-1 win and tallied two goals on Saturday night in a 3-2 come from behind win. The Force were down 0-2 to start the third period and Smirnov tallied the first goal shorthanded three minutes in. He then knocked in the game winner with a little over four minutes remaining in the game to secure the sweep. Smirnov now has six points in seven games played. He is committed to Penn State University following his junior hockey career.
