Former Force forward Austin Ortega scored his 11th game-winning goal of the season on March 7th, setting a new NCAA record. Ortega is in his second season playing for University of Nebraska-Omaha and is currently the co-leading scorer with 33 total points (18g, 15a) after 34 games played.

Ortega broke the record of 10 game-winning goals in a season, which was held by seven other players and last equaled in 2002. Doug Weight, former NHL player, was one of the seven who held the previous record.

In Ortega’s time with the USHL he had 10 total game-winning goals in his 140 games played over a span of two seasons. Two of his game-winning goals came in playoff games. While playing for Fargo, Ortega tallied 30 total points (18g, 12a) in 35 games. Besides skating for the Force, Ortega also played for the Indiana Ice and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
