The Fargo Force have picked up defenseman Jake McLaughlin and a 9th round Phase II pick in the 2015 USHL draft in a trade with the Sioux City Musketeers in exchange for defenseman Matt McArdle.
Jake McLaughlin is in his rookie season with the USHL playing in 45 games thus far with Sioux City scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists for a total of 4 points with a plus/minus rating of -8. Prior to the USHL, the defenseman from Hinsdale, IL, played for Team Illinois-Midget U18 for two seasons. He is committed to St. Lawrence University.
“This is a good hockey trade for both teams,” said associate head coach Byron Pool. “Sioux City had a need for a right handed defenseman and we acquire a good skating defenseman who not only helps us this year but is also eligible to come back next year.”
In exchange for McLaughlin, defenseman Matt McArdle will be heading to Sioux City to join the Musketeers. McArdle debuted in the USHL last season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, playing 26 games and putting up 2 points before being sent to Rio Grande Valley in the NAHL. He rejoined the USHL with the Force at the start of the 2014-15 season playing in 41 games, scoring 1 goal and adding 5 assists with a plus/minus rating of -17. He is committed to Lake Superior State University.
“It’s tough to see Matt go,” said Pool. “He was a great team guy and will be missed in the locker room immensely. We always knew what we were going to get from Matt. His care level and work ethic were appreciated every day. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in Sioux City and next year at Lake Superior State”.
McLaughlin will wear jersey #23 and is expected to join the Force’s lineup on the road this weekend in Youngstown to face the Phantoms Friday and Saturday at 6:05 PM. The Force are back at home next Thursday and Friday versus the Tri-City Storm.
