The Force had a slow start the first two periods but laid it on the line with a big third period to come away with a 3-2 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers.

“This was a big win for us and we needed it,” Head Coach John Marks said.

Green Bay took an early lead when Joey Marooney capitalized on a Force turnover. The Gamblers took the 1-0 lead just over four minutes into the first period.

A couple minutes later the Force had a close shot on goal that went under review but the no-goal call stood.

Fargo led in shots on goal 10-8 after the first period.

The Gamblers got a second goal nine minutes into the second period when Ryan Smith passed the puck to Jason Dhooghe who was standing right in front of the net to shoot it past Force goalie Mathias Israelsson, who ended the night with 21 saves.

“We were just soft in the first two periods and there wasn’t much competing or effort,” Marks said.

But the third period belonged to the Force and it started right from the drop of the puck.

A little over three minutes into the third the Force went on the power play and with just 44 seconds remaining in the one-man advantage, TJ Roo got the Force on the board off an assist from Colton Poolman.

Less than three minutes after that, Poolman was at it again when he got the puck to Mason Morelli who tied the game up at 2-2.

“It’s so much fun to be back playing and to get a couple points never hurts,” Poolman said in reference to being out with an injury recently. “It’s just really good to get the win.”

The Force held the Gamblers to just six shots on goal before they were able to take total control and take the lead. Justin Baudry fired the puck past Green Bay’s goalie Jason Pawloski to go up 3-2. Mikey Eyssimont assisted the goal.

Tomorrow night the Force take on the Gamblers again for Purple-N-Pucks night. The team will wear custom purple jerseys that will be auctioned off live after the game with all proceeds benefitting embrace, Sanford Health’s Cancer Survivorship Program. Courtesy of State Farm Agent Gail Jordahl.

“We can use this win as momentum and use it as a starting point to get going on a roll now,” Poolman said.
