Sioux Falls won 2-1 in tonight’s matchup between the Stampede and the Force in front of 2,804 fans at Scheels Arena.
The first period was a split between Fargo and Sioux Falls with it resulting in a 1-1 tie.
The Stampede goal came from Joey Marooney assisted by Bryan Sienerth with 15:41 left to play.
10 minutes later with 5:28 remaining in the first period, Force forward Mason Morelli made a perfect pass across to TJ Roo who fired it right past Stampede goalie, Artt Brey, who ended the night with 19 saves.
The Force brought their defense in the second period with Sioux Falls outshooting them 15-8. Force goalie Robbie Beydoun stopped every shot that came at him, adding to his total of 35 saves for the game.
Fargo went on the power play with just 21 seconds remaining in the period after Chris Pohlkamp was called for roughing. This brought the closest shot on goal the Force had that period, coming from defenseman Justin Baudry.
The third period was the deciding factor of the game coming off a penalty called on Force defenseman Sean Mostrom.
Mostrom was called for holding with 7:05 remaining. This led to a power play goal by Sioux Fall’s Lukas Buchta off a pass from Troy Loggins.
This made the game 2-1 and was all the Stampede needed to come away with the win.
The Force only had 2 shots on net in the third, compared to the Stampede’s 10.
“We got outworked and outcompeted in the second and third period,” Head Coach John Marks said.
The Force are back in action at Scheels Arena on Saturday when they take on the Sioux City Musketeers.
