The Fargo Force came from behind to win 3-2 tonight over the Sioux City Musketeers in front of 3,745 fans at Scheels Arena.
The Force led in shots on goal 10-9 through the first period but could not make up for it on the scoreboard.
Sioux City forward Sam Kurker put the Musketeers up 1-0 with 14 minutes remaining in the first.
Fargo later had two power play opportunities but could not capitalize on either of them.
The Force won the second period, however, which started with a CJ Hayes goal assisted by Mike Babcock and Kyle Sylvester with 13:40 left to play. This tied the game up at 1-1.
The Force continued to play hard in the second and with just 1:50 left to play, Cole Bjugson scored his first goal of his USHL career and put the Force up 2-1 with the assists coming from Denis Smirnov and Justin Baudry.
Then, just a little over a minute later Sioux City’s Ryan Walker tied the game up at 2-2 on a power play goal after Force defenseman Matt McArdle was called for hooking.
Coming into the third period tied with the 1st place team, the Force knew they had their work cut out for them and they responded exactly how Force head coach John Marks wanted them too.
“We played hard, we played the way I want our team to play and we played the way we are capable of playing,” Marks said.
The Force and the Musketeers each had 12 shots on goal with one minute left to play in the game.
But the difference maker came with just 31.7 seconds remaining on the clock when Brody Stevens made it 3-2 in favor of the Force off assists from Zach Yon and Mikey Eyssimont.
This was enough for the Force after goalie Robbie Beydoun stopped one more shot of Sioux City’s to add to his total of 33 saves for the night and came out with a Force win.
“Beydoun is a good goalie and that’s why he’s here,” Marks said. “He’s only played three games but every game he’s played, he has played well.”
The Force return home for a Thanksgiving Eve game on Wednesday, November 26th when they take on the Sioux Falls Stampede and then again Saturday, November 29th, where they will face the Sioux City Musketeers.
