FARGO, ND – The Fargo Force are excited to announce Chad Demers will be returning to Fargo to serve as the Associate Head Coach.
Demers returns to Fargo with a year of D1 College hockey coaching experience under his belt. In Fargo he served as Assistant Coach, Director of Scouting and Associate Head Coach. In his time coaching in Fargo, he helped lead the Force to a 57-36-7-2 record, with a Western Conference Championship title and Clark Cup Finals appearance during the 2020-21 season.
Demers returned to his alma mater for the 2021-22 season, serving as Director of Hockey for the Air Force Academy. With one of the youngest teams in the nation, Air Force finished the season with a 16-17-3 overall record and an 11-12-3 conference record. The Falcons earned a first-round bye and then swept third-seeded Army in the AHA quarterfinals in West Point. After a 4-3 win over No. 4 seed RIT in the semifinals, their season ended with a loss to top-seeded AIC in the championship game.
“This is a huge win for us,” commented Fargo Force President Jon Kram. “Chad was a skilled player and strong leader for both the Force and Air Force. His knowledge and passion for the game is apparent, and he was beloved by both players and staff during his time here in Fargo. It’s a pretty unique opportunity to have two alumni who played together serving as Head and Associate Head Coach, we are very excited to see what the future holds.”
Prior to coaching, the Grafton ND native played with the Force from 2008-11, serving as team Captain during the 2010-11 season. He played 117 total games for the Force tallying 23G-42A for 65 total points during his time in Fargo. Chad helped lead the Force to the team’s first two Western Conference Championships and Clark Cup Finals appearances. Demers played 4 years of D1 College Hockey at the Air Force Academy.
He served as team captain his senior year and was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, recognizing excellence in the classroom, community, character, and competition. He earned the Jim Bowman Award his senior year as the team’s top scholar athlete. Demers is tied for the school record with 156 consecutive games played and ranks fifth in points (48-78-126) since Air Force joined a conference. A two-time academic all-conference selection, he ranks 24th in Air Force history in scoring and helped lead the Falcons to a regular-season and tournament title in 2012.
“My family and I are thrilled to be returning to the Fargo-Moorhead Area. This organization has been a major part of my life in hockey both as a player and as a coach, and this community is a special place to be a part of. The opportunity to coach alongside my good friend and former Force teammate, Nick Oliver, is something that doesn’t come along very often in this business. I’m grateful to the entire Force organization for their support and I cannot wait to get started on this new challenge.”
