The Force started of the weekend right with a big 4-2 win over the Lincoln Stars. 4 goals from 4 different players, including Brett Link who sent home his 6th goal in as many games, plus a 39 save night from Fargo goaltender Louden Hogg helped the Force secure game 1 of the weekend
It was an exciting first period at the Ice Box despite a scoreless opening 20 minutes. The teams exchanged blows throughout the frame but goaltenders Louden Hogg and Kaiden Mbereko closed the door with a perfect 14/14 saves for Hogg and 11/11 saves for Mbereko.
The Force kicked off the scoring early in the second with a snipe from Charlie Lurie right after a Fargo powerplay timed out. He fired one past Mbereko short side from the top of the right circle off a feed from Bryan Huggins. The Stars followed that up with a goal of their own just over a minute later, tying the game back up at 1-1.
Lincoln took their first lead of the game at 12:32 in the second off a powerplay goal from Aidan Thompson. But the lead only lasted :24 seconds as Erik Bargholtz won a puck battle in the Force defensive zone and took it down the ice himself diving past the Stars defenseman and banging home his fourth of the season. The action packed second period ended in a 2-2 tie, Lincoln leading in SOG 24 to 19.
A high sticking double minor at 7:55 in the third sent the Force on their 4th powerplay opportunity of the game; this time, they capitalized. Bret Link put the Force up 3-2 scoring his 6th goal in as many games with a beautiful backhander at 11:07 in the final frame. The third period saw some big scoring chances from both teams but Force netminder Louden Hogg was lights out stopping 39/41 SOG. With 10 seconds remaining Andre Gasseau sent in an empty net goal securing Fargo’s 4-2 W.
The same two teams faceoff again tomorrow night at the Ice Box, puck drop at 7:05pm.
