A third period comeback for the Force fell just short as they dropped their first game of the weekend 2-3. Down 2-0 in the third a shortie from Bret Link and a powerplay snipe from Charlie Lurie tied the game at 2’s a piece. Midway through the third Sioux City netted the game winner, fighting off the Force’s offensive push for the remainder of the third frame and taking home a 2-3 W.

The Musketeers scored the only goal of the first, after a flurry of action in front of the net allowed the puck to sneak past the stick side of Force goaltender Louden Hogg. Sioux City outshot Fargo in the first 10-4.

Sioux City took a 2-0 lead midway through the second on a short side top shelf shot from forward Nick Pierre. The Force went on a pair of powerplays and a pair of penalties getting good looks in both the man advantage and disadvantage, but the period game to a close with a 2-0 Musketeers lead. This time the Force led in SOG 10-7.

Despite 3:53 left on the powerplay for Sioux City as they started the third it was the Force who kicked off the scoring in the opening minutes of the final frame. After winning a faceoff in the Force zone Bret Link snagged a puck off the boards from Bryan Huggins and took it down the ice, drawing a penalty just past the blue line and going forehand to backhand in front of the Sioux City netminder and finishing with the puck flipped up and over Alex Tracy’s left shoulder.

Charlie Lurie tied the game up at 8:27 with a beautiful far side snipe for his second goal of the season. The Musketeers regained the lead 30 seconds later out of the faceoff with a goal from Charlie Schoen, his second of the game. The Force had some big opportunities late in the third but weren’t able to tie it back up, falling to Sioux City in regulation 3-2.
