The Fargo Force (3-2-0-1) couldn’t get anything to land in the second and third periods, allowing the Omaha Lancers (3-3-1-0) to score three unanswered goals and take home a 4-1 victory in night one of the two game series.
Omaha put up the first goal 4:17 into period one with a goal from Cade Ahrenholz off a beautiful feed from Alex Bump. The Force netted a goal of their own just 30 seconds later, hammered home by Felikss Gavars for his third goal of the season. Fargo saw three powerplay opportunities in period one but couldn’t get anything going. The first 20 ended with the teams both locked in at 1’s, Fargo leading in SOG 10-7.
The second period was all Lancers, with two goals once scored at 4:30 and the next at 11:35, both of which followed their powerplay opportunities. The Force battled of three Lancer powerplays in the second but couldn’t generate any offence of their own. Omaha outshout Fargo in the second 12-6.
The Force headed into the third with 2:05 still left on a powerplay opportunity thanks to a high sticking call against the Lancers late in the second. But it was Omaha who scored with a shortie from Garrett Wright, his second goal of the night. The Force had a few good looks at the net but penalties late in the period shut down their offensive opportunities and the Lancers secured the 4-1 win in night one of the two game series.
The teams are back again tomorrow night at Ralston Arena for a 6:05pm C.T. puck drop, tune in via www.hockeytv.com.
