Minnesota native Matt Cullen spent his youth hockey years playing in Moorhead, MN and moved on to play college hockey for St. Cloud State University from 1995-1997. Cullen was drafted 35th overall in the 1996 NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks. In his historic 21-year NHL career Cullen played 1516 regular season games (Second most by any American born player) he also hoisted the hardest trophy in all of sports to win, THE STANLEY CUP, three times. Cullen’s accomplishments on and off the ice and his vast knowledge of all aspects of hockey will take the Cullen Force Academy to the next level.
“We are excited to have Matt as a part of the ownership group. Our goal when we started the Academy was to have a positive impact on local hockey culture. No one has had a bigger positive impact on local hockey than Matt. He knows what it takes to be great and is committed to helping the generation accomplish their goals. We look forward to working with him to help progress the game and our players,” said Josh Bjorlin, Executive Director of the Cullen Force Academy
Matt is excited for the opportunity as well. “I am thrilled to be joining the ownership group at Force Academy, this is the best and most complete skill development plan for the individual player I’ve seen. I’m fully committed to helping expand and progress the skill development programming here so our kids can continue to have the highest level of growth opportunities available to them,” said Matt. “Josh and the coaches here have done a great job of developing a fun, competitive, growth-based culture here with the love of the game at the center of it”
