A two goal third period wasn’t quite enough as the Force fell to the Buccaneers 2-3 in tonight’s matchup.
Des Moines tallied the first point on the board with a power play goal right around the halfway point of the first period on their second PP opportunity of the game. Fargo had a power play chance of their own a few minutes later but it was killed off by Des Moines. The first period closed with a 1-0 Buccaneer lead, and the Force leading in SOG 14-12.
Period two saw a combined total of 36 penalty minutes from the two teams but it was Des Moines who scored on the power play once again with just four seconds remaining in the period, giving themselves a 2-0 lead.
With 14:41 left to play in the third the Force finally added a tally to the board with a goal from Aaron Huglen. He fired one in to the upper righthand corner from the slot to cut the Des Moines lead back to one. 1:41 later Davis Burnside of the Buccaneers lit the lamp again for Des Moines off a feed from Noah Ellis, bringing their lead to 3-1. Jake Braccini added on another goal for Fargo with 8:30 left to play, off the rebound of a shot from Nick Strom. Some big penalties were handed out late in period three that forced Fargo to play the majority of the last 6 minutes down a man, or 4v4. The Buccaneers managed to hold off the Force and come away with a 3-2 win.
The Force hit the road this weekend for two more games, first on Saturday for a 6:05 puck drop in Omaha, followed by a 3:05 matinee in Sioux City on Sunday.
