Three power play goals from three different players helped propel the Force to a 5-3 win over the Stars today in Lincoln, NE
Kyle Smolen kicked off the scoring 3:20 into period one. He found the back of the net thanks to a rebounded puck off the boards from VanRooyan at the point. The Stars tied things up at the halfway point of period one thanks to a goal from Charles-Alexis Legault, the first of his USHL career. With 2:02 remaining the Force began their first power play of the game thanks to a “too many men” call against the Stars. Just 12 seconds later, birthday boy, Jeremy Davidson, one-timed a slapshot from the left flank that gave the Force a 2-1 lead.
Period two saw a powerplay chance for both teams but neither could get anything going. While there were chances for both teams, big saves from Boynton and Ouellette kept the second period scoreless, and the Force ahead. 2-1.
Period three saw a flurry of goals, the first from the Stars on a breakaway to tie up the game 5 minutes into the period. A little over three minutes later the Force fired in their second powerplay goal of the night. This time thanks to a shot from Cody Monds assisted by Tristan Broz and Bear Hughes. Then, at 10:19, just a minute and 47 seconds later, Fargo sent in their third PP goal of the night. Austin Wong went 5-hole from the high right circle giving the Force a 4-2 lead. He was assisted on the play by Ryan Siedem, his second of the night, and Jeremy Davidson. 3:20 later Lincoln cut the Force lead back down to one thanks to a goal from Jack O’Leary. But the Force maintained their 1-point lead and tacked on an empty net goal from Bear Hughes to come away with the 5-3 win.
The Fargo Force improve to 22-12-2 and finish the month of February with 6 wins and 3 losses. The Black and Blue return to home ice next weekend for a 2-game series vs. their South Dakota rivals, the Sioux Falls Stampede. Puck drop on Friday for 80’s Night is at 7:05 PM!
