Omaha breaks a 2-2 tie with a shorthanded goal late in the 2nd period, and Lancers ride some big saves from goalie Jakub Dobes to 4-2 win over Fargo in night one of the two game series at Scheels Arena.
Period one started out hot for the Force scoring just :27 seconds into the game. Cody Monds fired one in top shelf for his fifth of the season, assisted by Tristan Broz and Aaron Huglen. Eight minutes in the Force were called for cross checking sending the Lancers into their second powerplay of the game. 50 seconds later they tied it up at an even one to one. With 37 seconds remaining Trevor Griebel sniped one in from the high slot unassisted, giving the Force a 2-1 lead to end the first period.
The Lancers kicked off the scoring in period two thanks to the help of a Force skate. With a little under seven minutes remaining they tied it up at 2-2. Omaha took a 3-2 lead late in the 2nd period on a shorthanded breakaway.
In the 3rd period, and with the momentum still on their side, Omaha scored their fourth goal of the game on a 2 on 1 break, giving themselves a 4-2 win.
The Force are back again tomorrow night for round two vs Omaha, puck drop at 6:05 PM.
