The Force started out the new year right with a big 4-1 win over Sioux Falls tonight at Scheels Arena in Fargo. A big goal from Aaron Huglen in his first game in 1-1/2 years lit a fire under the Force that Sioux Falls couldn’t manage to put out. 17 stops from goalie Brennan Boynton also helped contribute to tonight’s win
Fargo came out hot in period one starting off with a goal just a minute and 25 seconds into the game. Jeremy Davidson tapped one in off a feed from Jake Braccini behind the net. Brent Johnson of Sioux Falls scored a little over six minutes later bringing the score to an even 1-1. Period one ended dead even, ones for both teams and six shots on goal each.
Period two got off to a slower start, but a waved off goal from Casey McDonald turned into a shoving match that sparked some tension between the two teams that remained throughout the rest of the game. With 7:25 left in the period Fargo finally regained the lead. The goal came from Aaron Huglen, in his first game back since April 16, 2019. He deked the Stampede goalie down, then roofed it in from two feet out, scoring the only goal in the second period.
The third period was all Fargo. Scoring two goals in the second half of period three. First up was Matt Crasa assisted by Ryan Richardson and Michael Suda. Then, with three seconds remaining Tyler Rollwagen went top shelf on an empty net off a unselfish pass from Casey McDonald.
The Force are now 11-3-2 and remain at the top of the Western Conference. We’re back on home ice again this Thursday, January 7th for a game against the Waterloo Blackhawks. Puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
