Five goals from five different players give the Force a well-rounded 5-3 win over the Buccaneers tonight in Des Moines, in the opening game of a two-game series.
The action in period one kicked off with a hooking penalty against the Buccaneers, giving the Force their first power play of the night. They took full advantage scoring off a pretty play resulting in a goal from Austin Wong. He was assisted by Tristan Broz and Mason Salquist. About half-way through the first Kyle Smolen scored giving the Force a 2-0 lead. He lit the lamp of a shot from Jeremy Davidson was reflected by the goalie. The period concluded with 2-0 Fargo; the Force led in shots on goal 13-5.
Period two was all Des Moines, reaching their SOG total from period one in the first two minutes of the second period. Paul Davey of the Buccs scored early in the second but neither team could but anymore points on the board. Period two ended with a score of Fargo 2, Des Moines 1.
Only 52 seconds into the third Jeremy Davidson squeezed one past the goalie from an impossible looking angle. The Bucs responded with a goal of their own around six minutes later on a power play.
A little over a minute later Tristan Broz found the back of the net, assisted by Austin Wong and Mason Salquist. The Buccaneers responded shortly after bringing the score to Fargo 4, Des Moines 3. Late in the third Ryan Richardson scored into an empty net securing a 5-3 win for the Force.
The two teams return for game two of the weekend tomorrow night, puck-drop at 6pm.
