The Sioux Falls Stampede galloped into Fargo looking for their second win of the season and to spoil the Force’s winning streak. The first period was owned by the Force in shots on goal, as they compiled 23 shots, while the Stampede only fired seven. With eight minutes left in the first period, the Canadian, Lynden Breen struck again. He slammed one in off of the pad of the Stampede goalie. Later in the period, Nick Strom joined the scoring off of a giant slapshot.
The Force and Stampede battled in the second period with multiple scoring opportunities on both sides but both came up empty. The Stampede finally got on the board two minutes into the third with a five-hole backhand to beat Cole Brady. A minute later, Aaron Grounds notched his second goal of the season to pad the Force’s lead. At 16:17, the Stampede scored on a wrist shot that just gets by Brady’s glove. As time ticks down in the third, a Stampede one-timer gets through Brady’s blocker.
Tied at three at the end of regulation headed to 3-on-3 overtime. With 2:52 left in overtime Nick Strom found some open-ice and flipped a wrister right by the Stampede goalie. The Force won in OT in front of 3,143 at Scheels Arena.
“What I liked was our composure on the bench. They started chipping away at our lead, but we stuck together, and we played a real solid team game to finish it with the overtime winner,” said Coach Pierre-Paul Lamoureux.
The Force are back at Scheels Arena for a pair of matches against the Chicago Steel on Friday, October 25th and Saturday the 26th. Tickets are available at the Scheels Arena Box Office, Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 6PM. Or through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000.
